Rather, it represents just one several ways in which the Govt sought to "de-sexualize" the Civil Partnership Act, and by extension de-sexualize same-sex relationships, in a way which, in my view, reflects a prevailing heteronormativity (that is to say, it reflects, and also reinforces, the social and political forces that force us to conform to heterosexual norms).

It is why, as a gay man, I am ambivalent about the Civil Partnership Act and what it reveals about what the Govt, and society more generally, thinks about same-sex relationships.

And it is why I'm uncomfortable when the Civil Partnership Act is identified as one of Blair's achievements. This assessment, in my mind, overlooks the important ways in which the Civil Parternship Act is ambivalent about same-sex relationships.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6214838.post-64315623681040714342007-06-26T17:57:00.000+01:002007-06-26T17:57:00.000+01:00This post has been removed by the blog administrat...This post has been removed by the blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6214838.post-58408869278654718102007-06-26T17:40:00.000+01:002007-06-26T17:40:00.000+01:00This brings to mind John Hegleys comments about to...This brings to mind John Hegleys comments about tourng on the Isle of Mann.

He queried if he was still comitting an offence when "he entered Douglas"!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6214838.post-9788341821180158612007-06-26T15:56:00.000+01:002007-06-26T15:56:00.000+01:00Quentin Davies wrote to Dave Cameron "Although yo...Quentin Davies wrote to Dave Cameron "Although you have many positive qualities you have three, superficiality, unreliability and an apparent lack of any clear convictions, which in my view ought to exclude you from the position of national leadership to which you aspire and which it is the presumed purpose of the Conservative Party to achieve."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6214838.post-50842910648819347182007-06-26T15:17:00.002+01:002007-06-26T15:17:00.002+01:00"no annulment because of non-consummation?"The MPs..."no annulment because of non-consummation?"

The MPs wanted to put it in but they couldn't be ***ed!
