Breaking News: Blair Questioned Again Over Cash for Peerages

On his first day as a 'free man' Tony Blair has been questioned for a third time in the Cash for Peerages inquiry. The question is - was it under caution? When the Police wanted to question him under caution in January he let it be known to them that he would resign. The Police backed off. Maybe it's now payback time.

UPDATE: Rumour is that Inspector Yates is doing the questioning himself.

Blinkin' Norah. Do you think Brown told the cops to get him????

Anonymous said...

Have they asked for his passport?

Good

The will not get away with this, it will destroy the brown government as well. How can Brown, the man who spent the 14m, claim not to know anything about this crime??

Goodbye NuLabour criminal rubbish....

I bet Blair wishes he hadn't let prisons get so overcrowded now.

This an appropriate biblical quote:

The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!
Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away.
2 Samuel, 1. 19

Calm down dears, it's only an interview.

Wow, Brown works fast!

Under caution?
I'd advise him to pack a toothbrush when he goes for sentencing...

Madasafish said...

so what has he replied before that they can prove he's lying about?

I suspect a case for obstruction would be handy...as a holding item and confiscate his passport as he's likely to leave the country...:-)

The question is - can he claim diplomatic immunity as a "Special Envoy" or is that only when he actually assumes the role ? But then again I suppose trying to solve the Middle East problem is a bit like community service but a lot worse !!!

Anonymous said...

Do we have an extradition treaty with the Palestinian Authority?

Chris Paul said...

Are you suggesting that this interview is going on right now? Yates versus Blair? I think you're going to be proved wrong, again, if that's what you are saying. I believe this was an historic interview that Blair kept quiet by request.

The CPS had all but chucked Yates' dodgy dossier back in his face saying "get something real or face a warrant for wasting police time, tosser".

Neil Reddin said...

Well the diplomatic passport will probably be held up in tomorrow's postal strike, so Yates has a few more days.

BTW, when does Blair start his new job?

Scipio said...

Will Blair get community service?

Hard for a middle east peacemaker to have any credibility when he is seen to have dodgy financial dealings, a wife that loves to shop at the expense of others, and....oh yea, illegally invaded Iraq!

Mind you, the dodgy financial dealings might give him more credibility with most residents of the middle east!

Does the UK have an extradition treaty with Israel?

It hurts doesn't it Chris?

Yates has done a fantastic job in exposing the lies and corruption at the heart of New Labour.

An outstandingly brave and determined man.

You may hear many "defenders" of the NuLab establishment try and brandish him a "tosser".

Anyone who says this is, by definition, an ignorant ar$e licking c---

Evidence for this wild assertion?

Anonymous said...

Interesting.

We keep hearing from the Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation that TB was the longest serving prime minister in his own lunchtime or something like that, whereas he was PM for a shorter period than
Walpole, Henry Pelham, Lord North,
Pitt the Younger, Lord Liverpool,
Lord Palmerston, Disraeli, Gladstone, Lord Salisbury and Baroness Thatcher.

Perhaps they meant the PM serving the longest time in prison. Walpole did six months in the Tower for acceptinag an illegal payment as Secretary for War. Shouldn't be hard to beat.

I'm mad me!!

Chris Paul

Look in the mirror you unsavoury bellend. He sanctioned torture flights, killed thousands of people, another 3 british troops died today in his illegal war and you are busy rubbishing the work of the police. You utter low-life.

Brown spent the money illegally raised by that crook Bliar. We all have to obey the laws introduced by that corrupt individual so its only right he is subjected to rigourous police inquiry.

You should be ashamed of yourself

Is this a fact? Link please.

please be kind to my patient , he is delusional and has trouble seperating fact from fantasy , a condition We doctors call "newlabourism" it leads to delusions of competence , compulsive lying and priapism.

Anonymous said...

Adam Boulton has said on Sky news that all the legal information he has been hearing is that the CPS are getting ready to dismiss the case.

The current police action is an attempt to find something (anything!) to save face.

Anonymous said...

"Evidence for this wild assertion?"

Chuck:

He's making the Labour party LOOK bad.

So he must be a tosser (or a Tory)

DUURRRHHH!!

Anonymous said...

I'm so sad, I can't even pull a pissed munter down at Ikon on a Friday night.

Anonymous said...

Adam Boulton, married to Anji Hunter, former advisor to...Tony Blair.

Can you spot the flaw in that argument Anonymous, or will I explain it in easier words?

Anonymous said...

If Adam Boulton on Sky (since when was Sky an authoritative source? Look who owns/runs it!!!) is right and the CPS throws out the cash-for-honours case, it will be the biggest scandal of modern times.

No one is above the law, even though they may work in Downing Street, and it is as clear as day that Levy, Turner, Blair and others at the very least have a case to answer. Anyone who can't see that is deluding themselves.

If the CPS acts as judge and jury it will be as corrupt as halting the Serious Fraud Office inquiry into BAE and teh Saudis, another instance of plain-as-a-pikestaff wrongdoing.

In America, where they are not so squamish or cowed by position and influence, the lot of them would be behind bars by now.

I look forward to the sight of Bliar, in 'cuffs, on the TV news, being led into court. Nothing less will satisfy the elctorate.

Old BE said...

To be fair, if there isn't enough evidence for it to go to court, then there isn't enough evidence.

The electorate won't form their opinion based on what the CPS says or what the BBC reports - there are still some independent thinkers out there.

Anonymous said...

not under caution.
not going on now.

Anonymous said...

The damage is already done against Blair & co. I don't think they have done anything illegal but they will be (unfairly) condemned by the public as happened over the Hutton report.

The Remittance Man said...

Let's assume that Yates does have something on Tony and the proceedings for a court case begin. Presumably Tony will have to surrender his passport(s) or be denied bail as a serious flight risk. Wouldn't that make jetsetting around the fleshpots of Arabia a bit difficult?

Then again that small problemette would pale into insignificance compared to the one he'll have when he tells Cherry that there won't be any freebie flights to delightful, duty-free Dubai.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Colin that the Americans are not so squeamish and aren't cowed at all by position. "All men are created equal under God" isn't just a slogan. It's ingrained.

But Yates is clearly the reason for the swift job transition. One day PM of Great Britain, the next day takes up a new position as international envoy for some vague agenda of world peace or something. With the exception of someone succeeding to the throne when a monarch dies, it's got to be the fastest top level job turn around in history.

I'll bet they're out of the country really fast. I always said they would do a midnight flit. I've known for years there was something not right about these two.

Anonymous said...

I don't think there is much chance of TB being charged but others may be and they will call him in their defence.A long drawn out trial in those circumstances will be the last thing Brown needs.

Chris Paul said...

That man Maclean was interviewed on the Green today and made an utter arse of himself. But there was no penetrative sex, just other moves he should be ashamed of. As a grown man and all.

Chris Paul said...

PS Obviously in answer to all your polite enquiries Yates is NOT going to get done for wasting police time. But his dossier is very thin.

Adam Boulton is as good a corroboration for that information as any. I'll take that.

The AG should close this down, this is an old story. The New Government has bigger problems to deal with, Iraq etc. Plus Blair is needed to solve the problems in the Middle East.

Hey does anyone remember that Nick Bowes story Iain brought up in the run up to the local elections 2006?

http://iaindale.blogspot.com/2006/04/exclusive-questions-met-should-put-to.html

Perhaps it may be time to interview him again ...

Are you kidding?! That's the profile of almost any Arab leader! If change Iraq to Jordan or Lebanon, you'd be describing Yasser Arafat.

Iain says:
"On his first day as a 'free man' Tony Blair has been questioned for a third time in the Cash for Peerages inquiry."

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It happened 3 weeks ago. NOT under caution.

BLAIR IS IN THE CLEAR - get over it!!!

According to the BBC, "On Tuesday morning the then prime minister's official spokesman was asked by [the BBC] if there had been any further contact between the police and the prime minister and he replied his previous answers 'had not changed.'"

This goes beyond spin. If the PMOS knew that Blair had in fact been interviewed for a third time he was telling a deliberate lie. If (as was suggested on the last occasion) Blair was not keeping him informed, he should have said, "I do not know."

Paxman's advice rings true, once again. Always ask, "Why is this lying bastard lying to me?"

Anonymous said...

Slow DOWN. You're too excited. If Blair was facing prosecution he'd still be in power, the better to fend off the boys in blue.

David Lindsay said...

And next time, since he now has nothing in this country from which to resign, even John "Banana" Yates (bent and yellow) might caution him as the suspect that he must be, since no one can possibly have been given a peerage during his Premiership without his say-so.

No wonder Brown has stripped Alastair Campbell and Jonathan Powell of what were always their constitutionally monstrous powers: they could hardly exercise them from Parkhurst or Wormwood Scrubs.

With any luck, during their and Blair's trial, people will keep coughing "Iraq" within earshot of the jury. Perhaps the judge could do this? And then perhaps the jurors could do it within earshot of the judge during sentencing?

Anonymous said...

Brown is in the clear on this one. The loans were solicited when the election was a Bliar/Milburn campaign, before it became obvious that Bliar was a liability and Milburn was inept. Even Jack Dromey didn't know!

I doubt Bliar will be charged directly over this but he will have a very uncomfortable time in court. He will either have to perjure himself or make some embarrasing admissions. There's no protection any more!
