In Praise of the Devil

Congratulations to the Devil's Kitchen for making the front page of the Daily Telegraph today with THIS story, which I wrote about HERE yesterday. For those who don't know, Devil's Kitchen is written by UKIP supporter Chris Mounsey. His blog is not everyone's cup of tea as it is an unashamed swear blog. It's rare for him to write a blogpost without using the dreaded C word, which I don't allow here. But for all that, he is a brilliant writer - incisive, fisker-extraordinaire and with an over developed sense of humour.

I like having him as a guest on 18 Doughty Street because you can always guarantee a good row over something. And he can back up his sometimes extraordinary views with some good old fashioned intellectual rigour. He's not averse to having a good old go at me on his blog on occasions . . . and sometimes it's even warranted. I'm promoting him on my blogroll to a daily read.

Devil's Kitchen, I gave it a try but I found the swearing all a bit tedious and told him I wouldn't be troubling his site at any stage in the future.

Not big, not clever.

I’m not saying anything!

I've never heard him swear face to face, he has always been very charming when I have met him, and he is very good looking. I'm pleased for him with this scoop.

Problem is, notsaussure thinks he has got the wrong end of the stick, and I am wondering if it isn't just a storm in a tea cup he has brewed up.

Across the pond, the Virginia Tech blog has decided to censor all mention of Cho Seung-Hui. Its a bit like Hogwarts school and "He who's name cannot be spoken". http://prisonersvoice.blogspot.com/2007/04/exclusive-virginia-tech-blog-in-cho.html

In any event, if DK is right, perhaps Redwatch might bite the dust...

Talking of Blogs and MSM has Salam Pax got a spot on CNN ?

I thought I watched a videoclip about ballet schools in Baghdad on CNN narrated by Salam Pax today

DK is prone to brief periods of tedious self-pity, and he overdoes the swearing to the point where his overly long rants are unreadable.

He does, however, say the unsayable and does not give a flying fart what people think, which cannot be bad.

He also used to be depicted with a bunch of gladioli, and I am sorry, but frankly that is a bit Dorothy.

He is very readable - though my Mum wouldnt approve!

On Free speech - Roger Helmer highlighted the issue a couple of months ago when I interviewed him here:-

DK's brilliant. I don't like the swearing, but put up with it because he's such a scream and such a staunch defender of free speech.

DK's campaign for bloggers' free speech is a hugely important one for everyone who cares about freedom.

We should all back DK on this.

Except, Iain, it's not true. Anyone who did anything in a manner likely to incite violence or hatred would almost certainly breach section 5 of the Public Order Act 1936, which prohibits "A person is guilty of an offence if he uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour . . . within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby".

1936, no doubt you will recall, was a year when the Conservative party was in office.

The draft has been (for once) very efficiently filleted by the Government. You should be leaving UKIP to its paranoic fantasies.

H***y f*****g s**t! This is politics for the T-G's (Tourettes Generation). Thank God we have the Devil on our side and not those m***********g conservatives!

Iain,

Thanks for those kind words! To everyone else, this is the point: I exercise my right to free speech on my blog, you exercise it here and we all make our own adult choice as to what we read.

Jailhouslawyer: NotSaussure merely thinks that this will not materially effect British criminal law. The nature of our common law being what it is, we won't know until the first case is brought.

I suggest that you download the document and read it for youself. Whilst the document itself may not make significant changes, the fact that the EU, an unelected bureacracy, is dictating what we can and cannot say is disgusting,

Because, remind me when we get to elect the EU Commission? Er... never.

DK is clever, does his research, is very direct, gutsy and one of the best around. The robust effing and blinding takes a little getting used. But give me a brilliant DK post expletives and all rather than some of the tedious boring posts that litter the blogworld. I think in time he will get over his UKIP phase.

The dreaded 'C' word: not 'Conservative' by any chance?

Somepeople DK included seen to be of the understanding that they have in Britain a right to freedom of speech. No such right does or has ever exsisted. Its clear now that it never will.

Our 'rights', for want of a better word, (god help us) relie on the likes of Cheri Blair.

As the government appoints the judges and the media has gone into a love affair with big authoratarian government of any colour. European Liberty, always the poorest of bitches , is currently getting a fisting she will never forget or ever recover from.

Libertarianism in 2007 is confinded to personal swear blogs and dusty book shelves. Its a concept brainwashed out of several state educated generations.

Beware anyone who claims to want to change the mode of British politics. If is precisely the 'war' between political ideologies that have preserved what freedom we still have for so long. When politicians of different partys start agreeing with each other, free thinking people should start counting their few remaining days.
