A Way to Broadcast the Bremner/Beckett Tape

So it was Margaret Beckett who was duped by Rory Bremner into having a conversation with Gordon Brown about a rehsuffle. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she next sees Patricia Hewitt. Bremner says the tape cannot be broadcast on TV because of Ofcom rules. True, but of course internet TV is not bound by them... I'm sure I could find a way of broadcasting them on my 18 Doughty Street programme! Anyone got Rory's email address? If so please email it to me rather than leave it in the Comments.

Read an edited transcipt of the conversation HERE.

The relevant law if RIPA 2000. It isn't illegal to record telephone conversations and you don't even need to tell the other person. However, it is illegal to reveal it to a third party. So you coudn't broadcast it. However, the same applies to emails and many blogs, including this one, have breached that.

Any lawyers care to clarify my understanding of the law?

Here's a little extract:

GB/RB: I think [Patricia Hewitt's] a bit out of her depth there, actually.

MB: Yeah. That's what a lot of other people say to me.

Tee hee!

It couldn't happen to a nicer girl..

Is there a tape involving Helen Mirren too, that should be a right good laugh!

Ok ok, it is quite funny and a little bit insightful, but its a disgrace at the same time.

These tapes should not be published, they were obtained by deception, and ethically they are extrememly questionable. Iain, if you did broadcast them on Doughty Street, then you are just illustrating a case to have regulations for internet based tv stations.

If this was regarding tory ministers you would not be impressed... so its pretty poor that you back it now, just bacuse it is a labour minister.

To be totally honest. Any conversation between any work colleagues could have gone like that.

I found what she said totally underwhelming. No indiscretions, no insults, no real plotting.

Just a little - invited - rumination.

I think that if this is her at her most ungaurded - she must be a genuinely nice woman.

Big Andy dijo - "To be totally honest ...". Are you a car dealer?

Real estate? Politics?

I will never forget the look on RBs face back in 97 when his beloved Labour party won. Good to see he now has finally found his brain again.

Stuart - forget RIPA, I have a feeling MB could have RB prosecuted under the Fraud Act (or its predecessor, the Theft Act) for obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception - see the latest post on my blog for more details.

The main thing about all this in my view is that Rory Bremner is the biggest, smarmiest, smuggest, "I'm so clever" little s--t that I've ever come across. Surely I'm not the only one who finds him extremely annoying?

Playing his tape on Doughty Street would just be pandering to the whims of this "Look I make people laugh but I'm saying something really profound at the same time" psychophantic twit.
