Cherie Blair in New Honours Scandal

I really must be living in a parallel universe. Read THIS. I particularly enjoyed the bit about the "Rules of Conduct of Life". Is someone having a dig at the Bliars or does this come under the usual arslikhan?

They've got her maiden name wrong. It's Ms Greedie Boot.

Bestowing this honour raises a number of questions such as

What has she ever done to deserve it?
Will the freedom to be drunk also apply to Euan, or is it not transferable?
Will she really swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen?

According to Wikipedia

[...] the Freedom is not an honour or award except in the case of Honorary Freedom [...]

Anyone know if this is a case of honorary freedom or she just applied with the hoi polloi?

Hopefully whilst Mrs. Bliar is enjoying the freedom of the City of London, Mr. Bliar will be enjoying a lack of freedom with Lord Sleazy, Pre$₤a and the Gang of Dishonour at her Majesty's pleasure.

Those Aldermen do have a sense of humor :D

I suppose if she does swear the oath to the Queen, HM will have the last laugh..considering that, according to Gyles Brandreth (in a Speccie article, I believe), HM amusedly almost hears Cherrie's knees crackingly resist curtsying when HM walks into the room.

its a good job it isn't swine she will have the right to lead over southwark bridge...or cows!

just sheep and she and tone have met plenty of them recently!

Does she really have to swear an oath of alligence? Catholic lawyers recently won a High Court case in Northern Ireland about whether they should be excused from making such an oath as part of the taking silk process. Interesting to see what she does. Maybe she thinks that Freedom of the City means that she does not need to pay for trains or for the odd 60 items in a shop.

What a country we now live in. This is on about the same level of bad taste, as Blair's Congressional Medal of Honour. When is, he going to pick it up? We don't here much about it these days.

I wonder if she will sign her copy of "Rules for Conduct of Life" and auction it off.

Well I suppose it'll mean a free bus pass and/or no congestion charges???????.

You link to the BBC News site reported 'The honour dates from 1237 and bestows such privileges as the right to ...be drunk and disorderly without fear of arrest.'
Don't tell her son Euan- or they will all want the freedom of the city!

hmstanley - how can HM our Queen hear the Blairina's knees cracking when they're so well padded?

The Blairina will have exerted some sort of undue influence or other to have this award; but then again, the City is used to that, and has about 800 years of experience with venality and grotesque corruption. So I suppose this is a case of the bent congratulating the bizarre. Madame Blairovsky will now no doubt add this to her list of qualifications for expensive speaking engagements. Her agent can charge an extra 500 quid an appearance for this! Don't knock it. You people are so ungrateful - don't you realise a woman of her quality should be draped in honours! Lord knows where we would be without her. We need more barristers generally and here in Chancery we all think very highly of her. Pass the port.

This is puzzling as there is no way she'd even buy a copy of the Big Issue if someone gave her the £1.20, let alone any money to that grubby little Labour party.

She'll never get ithe honour, as the grasping little chavette will surely baulk at swearing the oath of allegiance to Her Majesty.

Even if she did overcome her reluctance to display her loyalty to the Crown and received this honour, it would be on EBay within an hour.

Love it, Dearieme - may I contribute Ms Fill Your Boot(s)?

Can't believe anyone recommended her for this - she must have applied in some way - whatever else, we know she won't have paid for it, should such a thing be possible!

Verity,

knees padded because she spends a lot of time on her knees?
