Harriet Harman to run for Brown's Deputy Leader?

I can't really believe this is true, but the Independent on Sunday reports that Harriet Harman wants to be Deputy Leader of the Labour Party when the Dour One takes over. The conspiracy theorists point to her husband's antics this week as evidence. Don't make me laugh. Still, I suppose she takes heart from the fact that someone as thick as Prescott managed it. Sorry, I'm still laughing.

Oh dear oh dear... has she started her campaign yet?

Harman is being stripped of key ministerial responsibilities, prone to making silly gaffes, has hit the headlines for her driving activities, can generate fierce political storms and is considered by some to be ignorant.

Would she really be such an unthinkable choice to step into John Prescott's shoes?

I've always thought Harriet Harman wore flat shoes anyway...

She's a pal of GB and she's definitely hoping for it. Over the last year she's been all over the country speaking at constituency Labour Party fundraising dinners - something she's never been known to do before - clearly a bid to raise her profile amongst the party membership.

Not a chance. The party membership, deprived of a real choice for party leader, will insist on having one for deputy leader. And they won't choose her.

My money's on Alan Johnson.
