I think that loyalty to the Conservative Party was indeed one of the reasons for his continuing to serve a woman who he found personally unpleasant, who had humiliated Walker's friend and mentor Ted Heath and who treated him with contempt by giving him jobs way below his ability. But I think that Walker had a nobler goal as well - by being inside the tent arguably he could, and did, restrain the great She-Wolf more than if he had been on the back benches.

And now the Thatcherites 2010 version are in power - at least pulling the key levers such as the economy. Note also “The Spectator’s” orgasmic welcome for George Osborne’s budget in the latest Speccy and James Forsyth’s barely disguised plotting in the same issue for Osborne to ease into Number 10 as soon as Cameron slips up – as the Tory Right no doubt all expect and hope that he will.

And the Peter Walker role is being played not by people comfortable in the modern day tent but by cuckoos from another party entirely. The Tories only need LibDem cover for a while – indeed they arguably only need David Cameron cover for a while! It’s a bit too early for rejoicing in Old Queen Street – but the old Queen of the 1980s must find it all more familiar then one might expect – after all she dealt with the Wets like the late lamented Peter Walker pretty well!Paddy Briggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17847108655078927970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6214838.post-52563455838589449862010-06-24T23:44:06.144+01:002010-06-24T23:44:06.144+01:00I met Lord Walker on a few occasions and when aske...I met Lord Walker on a few occasions and when asked he was delighted to review my book on Internet Marketing.

He understood all the concepts even though he was not of the generation that would normally have taken on board a new way of thinking.

What he did understand was the importance of the internet to the future of business and the ecconomy.Nigel T Packerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01427939267427529890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6214838.post-9107376162911082622010-06-24T14:10:10.581+01:002010-06-24T14:10:10.581+01:00Bladnoch.
